Red Bull reassures smaller teams: 'Liberty Media will keep you alive'

Christian Horner thinks Liberty Media is not going to let it happen that teams from the royal class of motor racing go bankrupt. According to the team boss of Red Bull Racing, the owner of Formula 1 would lend a helping hand at the moment that the need is really there.

Because the first nine Grands Prix of the 2020 season have been postponed or cancelled (in the case of Monaco) the teams have no income, while the costs continue. This has led to speculation that some smaller teams could go under.

Liberty Media's push in case of impending bankruptcies

"It could be an enormous blow and at that point the promoter has to decide", Horner talks to The Guardian. At the British newspaper, the 46-year-old Briton states that Liberty will then have to decide, should this scenario occur. "It is their business, they have to decide how do they keep these teams alive because they need teams to go racing."

Currently there are 'only' ten teams active in Formula 1 and driving with even fewer teams would be a big loss. That's why Horner thinks Liberty will pull out all the stops to ensure the survival of the teams. "The Liberty guys would do whatever they can to ensure that 10 teams are on the grid and competing next year."

Liberty has to protect herself and wallet

According to Max Verstappen's and Alexander Albon's boss, their own image also plays a role in this. "In order to protect their own business I believe they would help to facilitate, which means paying, to ensure that those teams would be around to compete next year."
