Teams are reportedly voting for an early summer break

The Coronavirus has put the Formula 1 season under a huge amount of uncertainty. Races have been postponed and it is unsure as to whether they will be rescheduled and when the season will actually start. At the moment the organization is busy looking for an alternative calendar and for this to happen the summer break will be 'sacrificed'.

Advance summer break

The summer break is normally in August, but FOM wants to bring that summer break forward so that they can use the period later on to put races in between. As a result, most of the original calendar can still be driven, resulting back to back Grand Prix's.

By bringing forward the summer stop of three weeks, teams will have the freedom to schedule this stop between 23 March and the end of April. This means that the teams themselves choose for a period of three weeks to stop everything, so that it remains proportionally fair to other teams and what is customary.

Voting round

The Race reports that the teams will vote on it today via an e-vote. The results are expected at the end of today. Should this happen and the COVID-19 virus is contained by the end of April, the season can start by the end of May, beginning of June. As a result, the teams will have to continue non-stop until the end of the season.

The condition is that the lockdown in this scenario is lifted in every country, but that is not yet visible. Furthermore, an early summer stop would fit in nicely with the self-isolation that many teams have set or are going to set up, which means that there is no tendency to continue because of the competition.
