Jake Hughes has qualified on pole position for the first time in the current Formula E season. The British driver will start the second race of the weekend in Misano from pole on behalf of McLaren. It was Hughes and Vergne who battled for pole position, with the Brit narrowly winning. Vergne will start from the front row with Wehrlein and Müller on the second row.

Cassidy, Frijns, Müller and Vergne finished in the top four of qualifying Group A. Hughes made a small mistake in the early stages of Group B's run in qualifying, but he topped the chart in the end. Wehrlein, Bird and Vandoorne also advanced from the second group.

The qualifying duels

Robin Frijns took on Nico Müller of ABT Cupra. Müller easily won by more than seven-tenths. It is the first time Müller has won a duel this season. Jean-Éric Vergne took on Nick Cassidy. Cassidy did very well, making up two-tenths in the final sector to finish 32 thousandths above the Frenchman. His lap time was taken away due to track limits.

Sam Bird then took on Pascal Wehrlein. There was less than one-hundredth of a second difference between the two, but Wehrlein went through to the semi-finals. Stoffel Vandoorne couldn't match Hughes who set a very impressive time.

The semi-final duels featured Müller against Vergne and Wehrlein against Hughes. Vergne had problems. His dashboard stopped working, so he was not getting all the information he would like. Still, Vergne finished over a second faster than Müller. Wehrlein did not manage to beat Hughes and has to make do with third or fourth place. Hughes completely lost the rear of his car but still managed to go through.

Hughes and Vergne then battled for pole position. Vergne set a 1:16.7. Hughes improved with a 1:16.5 and took the pole. His first of the season.
