Is Formula 1 boring because of Verstappen's dominance? 'It's not true'

Formula 1 boring in 2024? One group thinks so - because of the dominance of Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing - the other group thinks not. Alexander Albon belongs to that second group. The Williams driver absolutely disagrees with the claim of a boring season.

"A bit of a shame," Albon said in the Beyond theGrid podcast. Max Verstappen overwhelmingly won the first two Grands Prix of the season in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, and so we seem to be heading for another year with many wins from the Dutchman and possibly Sergio Perez, Red Bull's other driver. However, Albon does not want to put the stamp of 'boring' on the season. "It’s totally not that, at least from my perspective," he said.

Competitive F1

Formula 1 is all about winning, of course, but behind that it is unusually exciting in the British Thai's view. "Because you take him out of the equation, you have one of the best grids, the best fields, the tightest grids ever in Formula 1. And even if you include Max, still it’s the tightest field in Formula 1. It’s hard because it’s the leader, so everyone focuses on the leader. But the racing at the back is so intense."

The slightest mistake is very costly, as Saturday in Bahrain showed. "We went in two laps late and then we lost six positions," Albon cited as an example. The 27-year-old driver himself has yet to finish in the points this season. In Bahrain, he finished fifteenth; in Saudi Arabia, Albon crossed the line in eleventh place, 12 seconds behind number 10 Nico Hülkenberg driving a Haas F1.
