During the first two free practice sessions in Saudi Arabia, both McLarens played a supporting role. Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris finished seventh and 15th in the first practice session. FP2 did not go much better for the drivers, with Piastri finishing tenth and Norris 12th.

Piastri, who was driving his first season in Formula 1 last season, knows that McLaren' s position ahead of the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix in Jeddah is not ideal. The Australian spoke about the hard day for McLaren.

Piastri wonders where McLaren stands

"To be honest, it was a difficult day. In some areas we were good, but in others, we didn't look as good. It's a bit difficult to determine where we are, but we definitely need to make some improvements tomorrow. We will see what we can do."

Alonso was fastest in his Aston Martin in the second free practice session in Jeddah. Piastri, commenting on the Spaniard, said: "He looks fast. It's hard to say where we are. Honestly, we could be at the front, but also in P10. It's just very difficult to predict. So, we expect another exciting battle in qualifying tomorrow, and hopefully, we can drive more to the front than where we are now."
