Verstappen takes F1 to new level: 'He makes zero mistakes'

22-12-2023 12:00

Timo Glock is impressed by Max Verstappen. The lack of mistakes reminds the former F1 driver of the previous dominating periods of Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen won 19 out of 22 races in 2023. A remarkable record, but it is something else that has caught Glock's eye. The German, who raced in F1 for Toyota, Virgin and Marussia, finds particularly special the fact that Verstappen can rarely be caught at fault.

Why Verstappen's performance is so impressive

"I am not one for comparing drivers from different eras. Every decade or so a great comes along who dominates. At the moment it is Max. You can relate this to Michael, when he was at Ferrari winning for the first time and building an unbeatable team. You had the same with Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull, Lewis at Mercedes. Now it’s Max," Glock told BettingSites.co.uk.

"What impressed me the most about Max is zero mistakes. No mistakes from the team in terms of strategy, no technical mistakes in terms of reliability, over 22 races and sprint weekends. This is outstanding. With all the races you have now, this is unbelievable. It is at another level. So impressive."

Not only did Verstappen break all records, Red Bull Racing also went into the books as the team with the most wins in a row. In doing so, it obliterated McLaren's long-standing record. Red Bull also went 1-2 in the drivers' standings for the first time in history. Sergio Perez had to fight hard for it, but in year three at Red Bull, he eventually took second place.
