Windsor sees Verstappen top two sessions: 'Always complete rounds'

The first two free practice sessions ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix are over. Reigning and three-time world champion Max Verstappen managed to top both sessions with the fastest time. Formula One journalist Peter Windsor analysed the two sessions in which the Dutchman topped the timesheet.

"Very very close but, whenever he was out, Max Verstappen was always looking to be able to get out there and put the complete lap together. Sectors one, two and three were very good," Windsor says in his analysis on his YouTube channel. " Red Bull seems to have more downforce than their closest rivals," Windsor continued.

The 71-year-old journalist also noticed something else about the first sessions at the Mexican circuit. "Quickest in a straight line, that I saw all day, was Nico Hulkenberg in the Haas-Ferrari, with a speed of 351 k/ph. Alex Albon, 350 as well, very quick in a straight line, of course, it’s a long straight in Mexico," he said.

Sergio Perez is driving his home race in Mexico. He did not manage to finish above Verstappen in the first two free practice sessions, but the Mexican was not far off the Dutchman. In FP1 Perez finished third, and was three-tenths slower than Verstappen, and in the second session, the current world championship number two was another three-tenths slower. This was only good enough for fifth place during FP2.
