Red Bull mechanic not grieving after broken record, but: 'I want it back'

Red Bull Racing had long been the king of pit stops in Formula 1. The Austrian team set one blisteringly fast pit stop after another and had last broken the record in the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix. McLaren, however, broke that record last Grand Prix, in Qatar. Red Bull mechanic Calum Nicholas is not irritated after the broken record, but would obviously like it back.

McLaren breaks Red Bull record

At the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix, Red Bull managed to change Max Verstappen's tyres in a time of 1.82 seconds. In doing so, Red Bull broke their previous own record in terms of the fastest pit stop ever in Formula 1. The Austrian constructor's record was thus broken after about four years, however, by McLaren. The British team performed Lando Norris ' pit stop in Qatar in just 1.80 seconds.

Red Bull mechanic unfazed after broken record

Well-known Red Bull mechanic Calum Nicholas was a guest on Sky Sports, where he was asked about the new record. "I’m not annoyed at McLaren at all, they have done a fantastic job. That’s the thing about the sport, it doesn’t matter where you’re at, there’s always someone chasing you. Those guys have worked super hard on their pit stops, they’ve put in the hours," Nicholas said.

According to Red Bull's mechanic, McLaren has not copied from the Austrian team. "I’d like to say we’ve inspired, but that’s it, they’ve done an amazing bit of work so not annoyed at McLaren at all. On the other hand, I would very much like it back. I imagine that all my colleagues feel the same way, so now it’s just a case of get your head down, get practising and let’s see if we can get it back to where we believe it belongs."
