Vettel opens bee hotel in Suzuka

Sebastian Vettel is back on the track in Japan. Not to race, but to work on his biodiversity project. He has built bee hotels on the inside of the second corner. On Thursday afternoon local time, the four-time world champion brought all the teams together for the project.

Fight for eco-friendly Vettel

The German driver has been fighting for years to make Formula One as environmentally friendly as possible. Climate change, for example, was one of the reasons he quit F1. He said at the time: "It's not the main reason, but it certainly played a role. Humanity is facing the greatest challenge of all time. If we win this race, the world will continue to turn, but without us."

In the meantime, the former Red Bull driver is working on his own projects by opening bee hotels. He is also currently painting the kerbstones black and yellow. On his Instagram page, the German explains why he chose the bee: "We all know that an insect is very famous and that is the bee. The bee is yellow and black. It is the perfect ambassador for this project. The idea is to highlight the importance of biodiversity. It represents not only the bee but also other insects. We use the bee as an ambassador. It helps us to emphasise the powerful message."
