Lewis Hamilton frankly admits after the Italian Grand Prix that it was his fault that he and Oscar Piastri hit each other. The Englishman was given a five-second penalty after his collision with the Australian. The seven-time world champion started eighth but still managed to move up to sixth place in the race.

Hamilton on incident with Piastri

"I misjudged the gap that I had with Piastri," began the 38-year-old Hamilton, who recently extended his contract. "It was totally my fault and I went to apologise to him straight afterwards," the Briton continued. Piastri damaged his front wing and had to get a new one in the pit lane.

The McLaren driver was already reacting to the collision with Hamilton, and he did not have much more to say about it. He finished on P12, but was driving in eighth place during the incident with the English driver. Piastri was thus on course for a top 10 final classification, but ultimately was out of the points-paying positions.
