Verstappen wins again: 'It's never that straightforward, unfortunately'

Max Verstappen equalled the record for most wins in a row at Zandvoort. In doing so, he joined Sebastian Vettel's run from 2013. In a treacherous race with changing weather conditions, a safety car and a red flag, Verstappen nevertheless managed to take his 11th win of the season without too much threat. However, the Red Bull driver let it be noted that it is not as easy as it sometimes seems.

Verstappen and the Red Bull RB19 is the combination to beat this season. The Dutchman has already managed to win 11 Grands Prix, besides taking victory in two sprint races. In a press event including GPblog Verstappen is asked if the race at Zandvoort is an example that victories do not always have to come easy. Verstappen agrees, but also indicates that victories never come naturally. He believes that winning, especially in changing conditions like at Zandvoort, never comes easy.

"Even if you have the best car, and I think there have been more dominant cars in the past than what we have at the moment, and they haven't been able to win nine in a row or whatever, the consecutive wins we have as a team," Verstappen began. "So, yeah, it is hard and especially like today, it's easy to make a wrong call or even drop it yourself in the gravel. So, yeah, it's never that straightforward, unfortunately," the Dutchman concludes.

With a win in Monza, Verstappen would take his tenth victory in a row. That would mean he would take over the record from Vettel and become an individual holder. The Italian Grand Prix will be held at the Monza circuit on Sunday 3 September. This circuit is characterised by the high top speeds reached.
