Lewis Hamilton has been with Mercedes since 2013. Meanwhile, the Briton is driving his 11th season for the German constructor, but after the end of this year, the seven-time world champion's current contract expires. Damon Hill does not think Hamilton should go to another team.

For many of the 11 years, Mercedes managed to provide Hamilton with a car that allowed him to win a championship. Indeed, the Briton did so no fewer than six times with the German constructor. However, since 2022 it has been downhill: Hamilton did not manage to win a race.

Will Hamilton stay with Mercedes?

There is a lot going on around the seven-time world champion's future. Hamilton is said to be in talks with his team for a contract extension, but there is still no new commitment. However, Hamilton did indicate in Britain that he has 100 per cent confidence in his team. It was also rumoured that Ferrari would hold talks with the Briton. Hill calls it a "big risk" if Hamilton chooses to leave his team for Ferrari.

"Would he really go to Ferrari? From a strategic point of view, it would be a huge risk to go to Ferrari. Everyone would love to be in red and win, see what happened with Nigel [Mansell]. It’s a romance really but you’ve got to be cold-blooded about it. He’s not going to go to Red Bull either. As I understand it, the contract won’t just be a racing contract – it will be a full Mercedes ambassadorial contract," the one-time world champion told The Independent.
