Ex-world champion lashes out at Ferrari: 'Who is in charge there?'

Former F1 world champion Damon Hill has spoken out harshly about Ferrari. According to the Briton, the Italian racing stable needs to take a good look in the mirror, he told Express Sport.

Hill, who became champion with Williams in 1996, sees that Ferrari is still struggling. The iconic team last won a title (constructors) in 2008 and cannot compete for victory on a weekly basis this season either. "They need to have a good, long, hard look at themselves, or someone does," argues the Briton. The former Jordan driver draws a painful conclusion:"It just seems this is the malaise that they perennially suffer from."

'Todt or Brawn needed'

As one of the possible underlying problems, Hill points to a lack of leadership at the team. Ferrari said goodbye to team boss Mattia Binotto after last season and replaced him with Frederic Vasseur, who was supposed to pull the once supreme racing stable out of the doldrums. "It’s like, you’re not sure who’s really in charge there," states 22-foot race winner. "It’s such a potent force in the sport, it needs the firm hand of someone like a Ross Brawn or a Jean Todt to grab it and get everyone to march with them."

The Italians are currently fourth in the constructors' championship. Driver Carlos Sainz has so far secured the most points (68), leading his teammate Charles Leclerc, who managed to amass 54 points.
