Charles Leclerc had a difficult weekend in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago, where nothing seemed to work for the Ferrari driver. After he was knocked out in Q1 in Spain, he could only work his way up to P11 on Friday. Yet, he is determined to come back stronger and believes in his team to make a step in the right direction in Montreal.

Leclerc was asked at Thursday’s press conference whether his team have found what the problem was in Spain. The Monegasque driver responded shortly: "No, we didn't."

It was a rather unprecedented weekend for Ferrari’s driver. "To be honest, it’s the first time it happened in my career. If I look at the left-hand corners, that’s where I was struggling. I said it straight away after qualifying. We can see it clearly on data. I was losing seven-tenths on the left-hand corners. There were no real reasons for it yet, I cannot say much more to be honest."

'Believing in the project'

On the other hand, while the five-time race winner struggled in the last race, he continues to believe that the prancing horses are on the right track in terms of upgrading the car.

"Carlos [Sainz] had a great weekend, he had a great Saturday. But then on Sunday, we struggled again with the race pace. That's where we are trying to push at the moment. What gives me confidence though is that there is a clear direction in where we want to work and improve. This is what makes me believe in the project," Leclerc concluded.
