Phillip Eng is hugely impressed by what Max Verstappen showed in the Miami Grand Prix. The F1 analyst might have been expecting a win from the Red Bull Racing driver, but he certainly did not expect it to be so convincing. Eng is also curious to see how Sergio Perez will cope with this blow in the coming week.

"Max drove an insane race. It was not only a demonstration of Red Bull, but also of Max," Eng began to tell ServusTV. The 33-year-old racing driver, competing in long-distance racing, did not expect Verstappen to be so dominant. After all, the Dutchman had to come from ninth on the grid. "If you look at the strategy - starting on the hard tyre - you never thought it would be such a demonstration of supremacy. That's where the driver absolutely made the difference."

According to the Austrian, Verstappen read the traffic perfectly. The World Championship leader was patient and chose his moments smartly. "You can see what he can do there. Kevin Magnussen and Charles Leclerc are no amateurs either, they know exactly what they are doing. The fact that he passed them so coolly shows what kind of driver he is. What Max showed impressed me not only as a fan, but also as a fellow racer in the broadest sense of the word," he said.

Perez is beaten in Miami

Eng is curious to see how Perez will handle the result that Verstappen handed out in the United States. The Mexican was allowed to come in from pole position but could not prevent his teammate from running away with the win. "From Pérez's point of view it is not ideal, something like that upsets you [...]. Pérez has shown he is fast. He showed in Baku that he is someone to be reckoned with, but Verstappen has made some things clear to him now."
