Red Bull DRS speed is untouchable: 'Unattainable with one update'

Red Bull Racing is very dominant in 2023. The team won all the races, including the sprint, and therefore seems to have a huge advantage over the competition especially in the races. Sky Sports analyst Martin Brundle thinks the Red Bulls' starting positions on Sunday will make little difference to the outcome of the race.

So far in 2023, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez alternate as race winners every time, and in four of the five races Red Bull even managed to score a one-two. Only this did not happen in Australia, where Perez started from the pit lane after the Mexican already crashed out in Q1 in qualifying.

The RB19 is a rocket on the straights, especially with DRS open. No other team can achieve such high top speeds as the Austrian team. Brundle doesn't think this is as achievable for the other teams either.

"Their [Red Bull's] speed is simply irresistible and that's where the other teams must focus. It won't be easy, that's an overall car design philosophy rather than an update, and even then, only after they've understood what Red Bull are doing to dump so much drag," Brundle said in his column at Sky Sports.

'Starting positions don't matter'

Brundle even thinks that because of the RB19's extremely high top speed, the starting positions of Verstappen and Perez are irrelevant to the final outcome of the race. "With the DRS rear wing open the Red Bull is fundamentally much faster in top speed than the other nine teams, so much so that I suspect that wherever they start on the grid, and given no outside factors, they can finish one-two."
