Fernando Alonso notices many differences between Alpine and Aston Martin. The two-time world champion got to drive both cars last season. During the season for Alpine and after the season, the Spaniard got to wrap up a test day at Aston Martin. Alonso is happy to have already been able to experience the differences.

Speaking to the Dutch branch of Motorsport.com Alonso says the teams are completely different. Especially in terms of philosophies on how they design the cars and how they tune the cars. The Spaniard says he likes that he has already been able to feel those differences a little. The Oviedo-based driver says he must now try to understand the best way to address the car's lesser points.

Alonso does state that there is little point in comparing 2023 with last year's AMR22. He indicates that next year's Aston Martin car will actually be new again in all aspects, so there is little point in developing things from the 2022 car. He finds it mostly interesting how things work and to see the differences already.

Pleasantly surprised

As mentioned earlier, the 41-year-old driver has already completed a day of testing at Aston Martin. He says he is pleasantly surprised with "everything". Yet he admits that the car driven in Abu Dhabi does not look even slightly like what he will get next year. Alonso stresses that that day was not so much to draw confidence for 2023 because they are not building on last year's car. Alonso acknowledged that Aston Martin finished strongly in 2022. Sebastian Vettel qualified ahead of his successor in Abu Dhabi and at the end there was no longer a big difference between Alpine and Aston Martin. Finally, the Spanish driver says he felt the car was very competitive.
