FIA settled lawsuit over halo: 'Future of the FIA is secured'

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem is satisfied with the solution the governing body has agreed with Jens Nygaard, the halo's creator. Nygaard had filed a lawsuit against the FIA over an alleged patent infringement.

The halo has been a mandatory part of Formula 1 cars since 2018. Initially, not everyone was enthusiastic about it, but since then the part has proved its worth several times, most notably in Romain Grosjean's terrifying crash in Bahrain 2020.

One of Ben Sulayem's first tasks as president of the FIA became the lawsuit filed by Nygaard over the design of the halo. "I am very happy to tell you that the HALO litigation has been resolved in a very positive way, safeguarding the future of the FIA," he stated at the FIA's annual meeting in Bologna.

Furthermore, the FIA president stressed that the governing body wants to become more transparent. Therefore, the organisation has commissioned independent audits of its finances and governance and adjusted its future plans accordingly. "That means balancing the books and reforming the FIA to deliver more for its members," Ben Sulayem concluded.
