Max Verstappen took his fourteenth win of the season in the Mexican Grand Prix. In doing so, he breaks the record shared until recently by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel. However, Christian Horner believes the two-time world champion does not always get the recognition he deserves.

Besides the record for most wins in a Formula 1 season, he also broke the record for most points scored in a season held by Lewis Hamilton. Moreover, Red Bull Racing is having its most dominant season ever: the team won nine races in a row and put sixteen out of 20 to its name this year.

Horner thinks Verstappen deserves more recognition

Horner calls Verstappen's performance this year unprecedented and thinks the driver is "very much at the top of his game". "I sometimes think that his achievements perhaps don't receive the plaudits that they should," the Red Bull team boss said in conversation with ESPN. The 48-year-old Briton stresses that the victories did not come naturally and that he did not win most of them from pole position. He also mentions the two sprint races in Imola and Austria, both of which Verstappen won.

"He's had to fight and race for a lot of those victories. When we look back at the end of the year, it is an absolutely outstanding year that Max has driven. He hasn't put a wheel wrong; he's been perfect throughout the season," Horner continued. "It's been incredible, the level of consistency that he has been able to achieve."
