Binotto words surprise Horner: 'I would never say that'

Red Bull Racing is leading the World Drivers' and Constructors' Championship and the Austrian team is naturally more than happy with that. Christian Horner is going into the summer break with a good feeling after Max Verstappen 's victory, although the team boss knows that he and his team must continue to deliver maximum performance in the final nine Grands Prix of the season.

Red Bull would like nothing more than to keep its current margin in the battle for the world title intact. The level of the RB18 and Ferrari 's F1-75 is very close, a lot closer than the standings suggest. It promised at the start of the season to be exciting until the last Grand Prix - as it was last year - but it no longer looks that way after the first half of the season.

The difference is immense and since the introduction of the new points system in Formula 1 in 2010 no driver has been able to make up such a large gap. Max Verstappen could theoretically drop out three more times and even if Leclerc wins all those races and sets the fastest lap, he will still be behind his Dutch title rival.

Horner stays sharp, does not understand Binotto

When asked by Motorsport.com asked if he wouldn't prefer to see a smaller gap in the World Championship between Red Bull and Ferrari, he answers very honestly that there isn't a shred of thought in him that would wish for that. A repeat of last season, when the decision for the title only came at the very last moment, is not something they need to experience again in Milton Keynes.

To prevent that from happening, Red Bull stays on its toes week in, week out. He does not want to make any predictions. Something Mattia Binotto did prior to the Hungarian weekend. The Ferrari team boss said he wanted to go for a one-two punch. "Even if we had won with a lap lead, I would still have been cautious. I would never say we are going to finish first and second in another race." According to Horner, it is more about the way racing is done and it is important to focus on the here and now.
