In recent weeks, there has been a lot of talk about drivers whistling and booing in Formula 1. It was first mentioned during the British Grand Prix in 2021 and has never really disappeared since. Especially the last few weekends, it has been happening again, including in France.

There were plenty of fans for Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon and French Alpine this weekend, but many supporters of Charles Leclerc also found their way to Paul Ricard. The fans of the Ferrari driver were dealt a severe blow by the early retirement of the talented Monegasque.

Verstappen took full advantage, winning the race and leading by 25 points in the world championship standings. The 24-year-old Dutchman now has a 63-point lead. The remainder of the 2022 F1 season still has ten Grand Prix weekends remaining, so the task for Leclerc is becoming increasingly difficult. Leclerc's fans did not like that Sunday afternoon.

Again boos from F1 crowd

"On the podium, the Leclerc fans engaged in a light bit of booing with Verstappen when he was on the podium. When Hamilton went up on the podium, they engaged in a light bit of cheering because he's not Verstappen. You can't win where ever you are around the world. Someone will get booed. Max was booed by Leclerc fans, and Hamilton was cheered by the Leclerc fans," Kravitz told Sky Sports.
