Alpine is having a nice season so far. Last year, they won the Hungarian Grand Prix with Esteban Ocon after a big start crash and Fernando Alonso ended up on the podium at the Qatar Grand Prix. "At the last race in Silverstone we made a big step forward thanks to major updates. Red Bull Racing and Ferrari are still a bit too big, but the gap has narrowed."

Can Alonso win in 2023?

According to Alonso it is mainly about the speed in the slower corners. There is still a lot of ground to gain and the French team will work hard on that. Whether it will be enough to win, the Spaniard doubts. In the event of Ferrari or Red Bull having bad luck, it should be possible, but that is not the focus.

"We are aiming for 2023, then we should have a better car," he said. If it were up to Alonso, they would start building that new car now. However, with the small gaps this season in the midfield, Alpine cannot afford to do that. "It's playing chess on two boards. I think we can do that." Alonso expects the budget cap to ensure Alpine can compete next year.
