Max Verstappen explained managing his intermediate tires after qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing driver says he improved his time as the track became drier but the grip of the tires was not perfect.

For example, Verstappen said at the FIA press conference that a real dry line only came in Q3 because the track was already dry in some places. "Well, I mean, that was mainly in Q3, just because the track was dry in some places. And I felt like actually, on the first lap, the tyres were in the best condition. But of course, the track keeps on drying. So that's why on the second lap, you improve."

Still, the reigning world champion indicates that the grip of the tires was not perfect and the main task was not to destroy the front tires at the beginning of the lap. The Dutchman concludes, "You just try to not kill the front tyres, basically in the beginning of the lap, and make sure that towards the end of the lap, you still have that little edge on the front to make sure that the car turns."
