Zhou hopes for chance F2 leader Drugovich in Formula 1

Zhou Guanyu and Felipe Drugovich were teammates in Formula 2 in 2021, but both failed to rewrite the history books. Meanwhile, Zhou is the first Chinese Formula 1 driver ever and Drugovich a frontrunner in F2. The next step for the Brazilian could be F1.

In an exclusive interview with GPblog this week, Drugovich talked about a move to the king class of motorsports. He was asked if it's in his mind to perhaps make his debut this year? “Yeah, it is. Especially now it is mandatory for the teams. I think it is two FP1’s? So yeah, hopefully, I can get to drive a F1 there.”

If it's up to his former teammate Zhou, Drugovich deserves a chance. Speaking to the Brazilian version of Motorsport.com the Chinese says he hopes it for his former teammate but says it is not his choice. From his own experience, Zhou knows how difficult it is to get a seat. In addition, he cites that Drugovich is not the only one who wants a spot in F1. 

Perfect condition

According to Zhou, there are so many factors that determine whether a driver will indeed get a chance in F1. Capturing the championship in F2, that would certainly help Drugovich. "Yes, I just want to be the champion," the Brazilian told GPblog in that regard. "That will be the perfect condition if I want to have a chance in F1."
