Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Lewis Hamilton is looking to invest money in Chelsea football club along with tennis star Serena Williams. However, the Briton is facing opposition to the takeover of the club by the co-owner of Mercedes-AMG F1 team.

Chelsea FC is currently up for sale after Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich stepped down due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. At the Imola Grand Prix, Hamilton confirmed his interest in taking over the club. The Briton reportedly put ten million pounds into the bid of British businessman Martin Broughton.

However, Hamilton now faces new competition from a person he knows well. Indeed, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made a formal bid for the club worth £4.25 billion, reports Sky Sports. The British multi-millionaire is the chairman and CEO of INEOS, the company that owns one third of the Mercedes F1 team.

Hamilton has clear goal

Hamilton is not only interested in the club's new successes, but the Briton also wants to play a role in Chelsea's future plans to promote diversity and equality within the club. However, this is now in jeopardy due to Ratcliffe's mega-bid.
