The Australian Grand Prix has been a weekend to forget for Carlos Sainz. After only a ninth place in qualifying, the Spaniard already crashed out on the third lap of the race due to his own mistake. According to Sainz, the mistakes of this weekend should not happen again.

At the start, Sainz was overtaken left and right by his colleagues after the Spaniard chose to start on the hard tyre. However, he also faced another problem, he told Sky Sports.

"I'm not sure if it was the wrong decision to start on the hard tire. I made a mistake by misjudging the grip. Today we had problems with the steering wheel again. We had to change the steering wheel one minute before the formation lap and some of the switches were not placed properly. That meant I was up against the anti-stall at the start."

'It was a disaster'

Warming up the tires has only become more difficult this year. Sainz wanted to catch up too quickly, but he hadn't warmed up his tires enough. As a result, he spun and got stuck in the gravel. "It wasn't a perfect weekend. It was a bit of a disaster and we have to learn from that."

"We have to make sure we don't make these mistakes again on my side of the garage. We have a car to win every race. The steering problems of today shouldn't be there," Sainz said.
