Haas boss Steiner understands position of top teams on sprint racing

According to the rumours, there could be six sprint races next season. But it is just as possible that there will be three or perhaps no sprint races in the new season. The top teams only want more sprint races if an important condition is met.

The Formula 1 teams will have a budget cap next season. This means that a maximum amount can be spent to get through the season. A crash in a sprint race can be quite expensive. Substantial damage can mean that other things - such as development of the car - have to be cut back. That is why the top teams do not want six sprint races under the current budget cap.

McLaren boss Zak Brown said earlier that the position of the top teams is nonsense. Haas team boss Gunther Steiner understands Mercedes and Red Bull. He finds it understandable that with the current budget limit they prefer not to run any additional risks of damage and thus higher costs, he told Motorsports.com.

Spend more money

Steiner thinks that the top teams want to use their power to be able to spend more money on the development of the car. According to him, the budget cap is therefore not the problem, but rather that the teams would rather spend the money differently. On February 14 it should become clear whether the top teams will get what they want.
