Toto Wolff is still outraged by the outcome of the 2021 Formula One season. The first statement from Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, is still pending, but the Mercedes team boss spoke up on behalf of his team and the vice-champion.

The denouement of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix caused outrage among many Formula 1 viewers worldwide. Mercedes initially decided to add fuel to the fire by lodging a double protest, but a few hours later the stewards turned this down. The team wanted to appeal, but just before the FIA awards gala, they withdrew their plans to lodge a formal protest.

What followed was an emotional press moment with Wolff, who stated that he and Hamilton 'will never get over what happened'. Yet they jointly decided to drop the protest. "Every step was a joint decision," Wolff said in an interview with Bild. "We decided together that we are not going to do this. We didn't want to win the title in court."

That the team came to the decision to withdraw the announced appeal, by the way, does not mean that Wolff has already calmed down. "Every fibre of my heart and soul is still crying," said the heartbroken Mercedes team boss.
