According to McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl, there was nothing 'spicy' about the Mercedes engine that was in the back of the McLaren last season. He reveals that the engines in the McLarens had no significant differences compared to the engines used by the factory Mercedes team itself.

At the end of the season there was a lot of talk about the Mercedes engine that Lewis Hamilton used in Brazil. That weekend, in both the sprint race and the Grand Prix itself, the seven-time world champion was able to fight his way up from the back of the field and eventually win the Grand Prix.

No difference between McLaren and Mercedes

Seidl put the data of the Mercedes engines that McLaren uses next to the data of the engines of the factory team of Mercedes and let it be known that he didn't see big differences. "When I look into the data, and we compare the data from other teams, I don’t see that there was ever an extraordinary spicy engine around," he revealed to FormulaRapida.net.

The German team boss let it be known that he is happy with the work Mercedes delivered in 2021. He explained that new engines can sometimes be several tenths per lap faster than outdated engines.
