Tech3 History
Tech3 is one of the longest-running satellite teams in MotoGP with a history dating back to 1999. Originally partnered with Yamaha, the team dominated the 250cc class in 2000 with a 1-2 championship finish before moving up to the premier class for the following year.
The team remained as a Yamaha satellite team throughout the years, hosting talents like Marco Melandri, Colin Edwards and Cal Crutchlow and scoring occasional podiums.
In 2018, the team officially partnered with KTM rather than Yamaha and became a satellite team for the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer. The team’s first ever premier class win came at their new home circuit, The Red Bull Ring, in 2020 when Miguel Oliveira won a dramatic race, overtaking two riders on the final corner of the final lap to claim victory.
Oliviera would then go on to claim a second victory at his own home Grand Prix in Portugal, marking the most successful year in Tech3’s history in the premier class.
The team has since given rise to talents such as Pedro Acosta and Raul Fernandez, though their current lineup consists of the experienced duo of Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini.
Former F1 team principal Guenther Steiner announced that he would be taking on an ownership role for the 2026 season.
Tech3 in 2025
It was a difficult year for Tech3 but one which certainly came with a few highlights. While Maverick Vinales missed a large portion of the season due to injury, he did manage a spectacular podium finish in Qatar which was later stripped after a tyre-pressure infringement was discovered by the FIM.
On the other side of the garage, Bastianini had some good stand-out performances such as a podium finish in Catalunya and a sprint podium in the Czech Grand Prix at Brno.
