Red Bull need "40 degrees outside" to have a chance of winning

Max Verstappen feels Red Bull need similar temperatures to that of the Austrian Grand Prix to have a chance of replicating their achievements at the British Grand Prix this weekend.

Max Verstappen secured his and Red Bull's first win of the season at the Red Bull Ring in Austria two weeks ago by recovering from seventh on the opening lap and overtaking Charles Leclerc in the closing stages. The team will be looking to build on that result at Silverstone but unless their opponents face similar issues to the ones they had in Austria it appears an uphill battle.

Mercedes were forced to manage a cooling issue whilst Sebastian Vettel was hampered by his qualifying session which saw him start P9. Verstappen is aware of the challenge at hand and joked that they could do with some more searing temperatures.

“We need 40 degrees outside, that normally works quite well," Verstappen told reporters according to Grand Prix 247.

"We didn’t have many cooling issues compared to Mercedes. Cornering-wise I think we were more competitive than Ferrari."

The Dutchman also played down the significance of his win in Austria adding: “Of course it’s a race victory but it does not mean we are suddenly the dominant team. We still need to step up our performance a bit more."
