Ferrari lacks self-confidence: 'At Red Bull, they're used to that'

Both Ferrari drivers did not make it to the end of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and that is a major setback in the hunt for the first world title since 2008. Gerhard Berger sees a clear difference with Red Bull Racing.

Ferrari started the last four races with Charles Leclerc from pole, but none of the pole was turned into a win. The speed is there at Ferrari, but every race something goes wrong. In Barcelona and Azerbaijan the Monegasque crashed out due to reliability problems and in Monaco there was the strategic blunder at the pit wall.

Ferrari lacks self-confidence

''In qualifying, you can see with Leclerc's pole position that Ferrari has a small lead when it comes to performance. However, they will have to shift down a gear somewhere, because these breakdowns hurt the most. You can't afford much of this,'' says the former Ferrari driver to the Kronen Zeitung.

Red Bull Racing also had some reliability problems at the start of 2022, but has since run away in the championship. ''Red Bull looks much closer and is used to fighting for a world championship. That was a long time ago for Ferrari and they are not so confident there yet,'' the Austrian concludes.
