Max Verstappen retained the lead at the start of the sprint race in Spielberg. The Dutchman had to defend against the Ferrari drivers, but Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc are then too busy with each other to try anything on Verstappen. Sainz opens the attack on Leclerc, but the Monegasque manages to come back a few corners later. The fight allows Verstappen to increase his lead.
