You said "In the spirit of racing Masi, removed all obstacles to have 2 protagonists race each other head to head" Masi had two options per the regulations and the "spirit of racing". Option 1 (as announced on Lap 56) :- lapped cars do not overtake, meaning a one-lap shootout starting with Norris, Alonso, Ocon, Leclerc & Vettel between Hamilton & Verstappen. Verstappen would spend the first quarter/half of the last lap clearing the backmarkers (under blue flags), then there's a real do-or-die shootout with Verstappen catching Hamilton - probably by around Turn 9 - on way fresher tyres but no clear overtaking place, having to be creative while Hamilton tries to make his car as wide as possible. Who knows what would have happened - that would be a worthy winner-takes-all scenario and a huge win for the sport. Option 2 :- ALL lapped cars unlap themselves (in which case probably no chance to go green, but if the race does restart) Verstappen has to attack Hamilton while also defending from Sainz - who would have been right behind him and had been running faster in the previous racing laps. Could/would Sainz have passed Verstappen for second? We'll never know because he was robbed of the chance by not having HIS backmarkers (Ricciardo & Stroll) also unlapped. Either Option 1 or Option 2 would have been correct as per the regulations and precedent, and in the "spirit of racing". Instead we had a half-baked abomination that no true racing fan should agree with.
