Formula 1 is a sport for people in their twenties and thirties. Kimi Raikkonen is an exception with 41 years because the Finn is still active in the premier class of motorsports. Lewis Hamilton, at 36, is also becoming a relatively old driver, who is hunting for his eighth title this year. If not, the British champion still has plenty of time... but will he stay in the race that long?

Plenty of time

Lewis Hamilton is still performing at the best of his ability and there doesn't seem to be an end to his focus and commitment any time soon. Still, there comes a time when a driver is past his peak, but it can take time. Considering Raikkonen's age, Hamilton still has years to go in that regard. Also to grab even more titles, yet the seven-time champion questions that he will go on for so long.

In an interview with AS.com Hamilton is asked if he will still be active in Formula One in five years' time when he is 41. Although Hamilton doesn't rule anything out, he doesn't expect to. For example, the driver says, "I don't think so. I don't think I'm going to drive forever, even though this has been the greatest journey of my life."

Never say never

As a driver, Hamilton has achieved just about everything, although breaking Schumacher's record is obviously a nice aspiration. Hamilton says nothing to give numbers and statistics, but with eight world championships, he would obviously rewrite the history books. Considering he is also capable of achieving that, keeping going will undoubtedly play a role somewhere.

The Mercedes driver also has other ambitions, as is well known. He continues: "There are a lot of things I want to keep doing from one season, but some things I don't want to keep doing. I would have five years left for that, and I don't think I'm going to keep racing then, but never say never...."
