This year Lewis Hamilton was able to break records on the track, breaking Michael Schumacher's record of 91 F1 victories and equalling the German's seven titles. Not only was Hamilton important on the track, the Brit also played an important role off the track to try and increase diversity in F1.

Hamilton also played an important role in the Black Lives Matter movement, which, according to the reigning world champion, had a major impact on his performance in 2020. "I had that extra drive in me last year to win those races. It was different driving than I've done in recent years," Hamilton said to The Independent

"The goal is to finish first, so that I could use that platform (for Black Lives Matter) and make sure that the light is as bright as possible." According to Hamilton, 2020 is only the beginning of his actions and we will see more of them in the years to come. "There is no way I am going to keep quiet. That is what I said to myself."

According to Hamilton, it is especially important that there is more diversity within the teams. "There are a lot of young children of colour who need to be given the chance to get a good education, to become an engineer or whatever they want to be. The fact is that the opportunities are not equal for them at the moment," concludes Hamilton.
