Wolff on difference with Ferrari: "They háve to win, we stay humble"

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff believes the biggest difference between the team and Ferrari is the attitude between the two teams, as the Austrian thinks Ferrari give themselves an obligation to win every race, unlike Mercedes.

The Silver Arrows have been utterly dominant since 2014, winning every single title in both championships since then. Ferrari have been scrambling in those early turbo-hybrid years but seemingly found their way back to the top, challenging Mercedes for the title in 2018 in a serious manner.

Still, the Germans came out on top yet again. Wolff distinguishes the two sides in an exclusive interview with Formule1.nl.

"Part of our DNA is that he stay humble when we when," the Austrian explained.

"We don't see a victory as a given thing. We don't go into a weekend thinking a win is a 'must'.

"If there are races where P2 is the highest obtainable position and we did out absolute best, I'm happy with that. In my opinion that's the biggest difference between us and Ferrari."

For the first half of the season in 2018, Ferrari led the championship in both categories, with Sebastian Vettel being in a rich vein of form. Still, Lewis Hamilton's devastating consistency proved to be too much for the prancing horse.

"Ferrari has an attitude that anything less than a win isn't good enough; they háve to win. Even if they've done everything they can, second place would still be a failure."
