Norris and Russell's former team change name

A big name is disappearing from Formula 2. After the departure of Trevor Carlin and Stephanie Carlin, the team name Carlin will also disappear from the sport. The British team will continue as Rodin Motorsport in 2024.

Trevor Carlin founded his own team in 1996: Carlin Motorsport. Trevor drove in several racing classes himself, but would become more successful as a team owner. Carlin Motorsport grew into an established name in recent years. As a team, it won the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, the GP3 series, six times the British F4 championship, the Indy Lights and, in 2018, also the Formula 2 championship.

New team name in Formula 2

Besides titles for the team, Carlin was mainly known as a talent machine. Lando Norris won the European F3 title with the British team, breaking through to the general public. In F1, George Russell, Kevin Magnussen and Carlos Sainz are drivers who were also successful with the British brand. Yet that is about to change in 2024.

Indeed, team owner Trevor Carlin has stepped down. The founder already sold a percentage to Rodin last year and is now stepping out of the project altogether. Stephanie Carlin, his wife, was the designated person to take over. However, Stephanie was already known to have made the move to McLaren. Therefore, the team has decided to continue under a new name: Rodin Motorsport.

"I am thrilled to lead Rodin Motorsport in this new era of our racing history. The team have a tremendous racing pedigree which we will continue to build upon moving forward. The 2024 season is once again going to be an exciting year for everyone at Rodin Motorsport and I for one can’t wait to get back on track where we belong. Our core values remain the same and we continue to strive to be the leading junior motorsport team. Our commitment to the drivers, championships and staff remains unwavering; we are here to race, develop drivers and keep winning," David Dicker, Rodin Motorsport's Motorsport Director, informed in a press release.
