The new Formula 1 season will start in just two months' time, meaning teams are in full preparation. At Ferrari, there is a lot of confidence about the possibilities for the race year, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. The Italians' new car is said to have some major improvements.

Ferrari realise they must not make the same mistakes they made last calendar year. After a strong start, the car remained competitive in qualifying, but during the races things mostly went wrong for the team. In part, this was due to personal mistakes, but it also needed improvement in other areas.

Among other things, it had to reduce engine power early in the season because of reliability and end the development programme earlier, thus losing the competition with Red Bull Racing. Moreover, Mercedes also came close at the end of the year.

Some changes at Ferrari

Despite this, Ferrari would keep confidence in the car and keep it largely the same. On the aerodynamic front, however, there is something to be done. The Italians have learnt from last season and the cars of other teams, so it hopes to take a step forward.

It also wants to ensure a reliable engine, which would see a 30bhp power increase. Indeed, it realises that new team boss Frederic Vasseur can be successful with Ferrari, but that he needs a competitive car to do so.
