Sergio Perez believes drivers from Latin America are not always taken seriously. According to the Mexican, he is therefore more likely to be criticised than Europeans.

Perez was under pressure for a while in 2022 after his performance was somewhat disappointing after all. However, he managed to win again in Singapore and also achieved a strong result in Japan by finishing second, securing Max Verstappen his title. Perez is therefore of the opinion that he is looked at more critically when things go less well.

Perez under a magnifying glass

''You see with other drivers, they have similar issues and it’s hardly been talked about. I sometimes feel you are not taken seriously. I just felt that sometimes you are not taken seriously, sometimes people say ‘well, he’s just a Mexican, he’s lazy, his culture,’ so on and so on. They thought just because you are Mexican you are not able to compete with the best people in the world,'' said the Red Bull Racing driver, according to Motorsportweek.com.

There is plenty at stake for Perez in 2022. Together with Verstappen, he can secure the constructors' world title for Red Bull Racing in the United States, followed by his home race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. There, Perez will be keen to shine and chase his third win this season to completely silence his critics.
