Sebastian Vettel might just retire from Formula 1 after this season. For every driver, the day will come when he decides to retire and according to the latest reports, the German is thinking hard about it in the coming weeks.

Vettel announces future plans soon

On Twitter, FIA accredited journalist Davide Russo posted a comment from the Aston Martin driver. Vettel is said to be seriously considering his future in Formula 1 and in particular whether he still has enough energy to grow with his team. Russo quotes the four-time world champion: "I don't want to fight for the points, but for the victory. Otherwise the fun is gone for me."

It doesn't appear that Vettel is merely thinking about a move to another team within F1. In the next part of the message, Vettel makes it even clearer that he is thinking about quitting the premier class of motorsport: "In the coming weeks, in consultation with my family, I will be clear about how realistic my goals are and about how much energy I still have to grow with the team." It is likely that Vettel is thinking about retirement, with talks about his new contract with Aston Martin having already begun. It may have given Vettel new ideas. With a few weeks of thinking time, a possible announcement could follow after the summer break.

Vettel has already had a very long and glorious F1 career. He experienced his glory days with Red Bull Racing. After his move to Ferrari, he was able to fight for victory for several more years, but never had a real chance of winning his fifth title. His most recent move to Aston Martin brought him to the back of the field and almost completely out of the limelight. The team's performance is particularly poor, given the ambition the management has. Should Vettel actually retire after this year, he will have driven 299 Grands Prix in his career, provided he does not miss one this year.
