Max Verstappen crashed out of the British Grand Prix on the first lap after a collision with Lewis Hamilton. The incident had a major effect on Red Bull Racing, who had to pay a lot of money to repair the car.

Hamilton did everything he could in the opening phase of the race to overtake his big rival. The Englishman then tapped Verstappen at full speed, after which the leader in the world championship drove into a tyre pile. Although it took a while for Verstappen to get out of the car, all appeared to be well with the Dutchman.

Painfully for the Austrian racing team, the incident not only had an effect on the standings in the world championship, but the damage also brought a lot of costs with it. "That crash has cost us approximately $1.8million and an accident like that has massive ramifications in a budget cap era," Christian Horner stated in his column on RedBull.com.

Verstappen versus Hamilton

Hamilton ended up getting a 10-second time penalty, but still managed to take first place. The seven-time world champion's victory means he is just eight points behind in the championship. Next week both men will drive in Hungary.
