Capito on Williams seat: 'Hulkenberg available next year'

The last time Nico Hulkenberg drove in Formula 1 was in 2019 at Renault. He was then replaced by Esteban Ocon. Last season he still filled in for Racing Point drivers who tested positive for Covid-19. Yet this did not secure him a seat for 2021.

There were rumours that the German would be an option for Red Bull Racing, but they ultimately opted for Sergio Perez. Now it appears that the Williams team does have an interest in Hulkenberg.

“I think at the moment we do not exclude any driver who would be available for next year. Nico is available for next year,” said Capito. Jost Capito told The Race.

"So we've got quite a long list," Capito said.

There are strong rumours linking George Russell to Mercedes. The Williams driver would replace Valtteri Bottas next year. Toto Wolff previously indicated he wanted to make the decision before the race at Spa. Should Russell really move to Mercedes, Valtteri Bottas would also be a good option for Williams. The Finn drove for the team for four years before signing for Mercedes.
