A Honda upgrade in Italy looks in doubt: "It's a difficult situation"

Helmut Marko has once again got carried away with Honda. He stated that a Honda engine upgrade will be coming for the Italian Grand Prix, but that now looks unlikely as Honda says the decision to take a penalty is "very complicated".

The Spec 3 engine has already completed five races for Max Verstappen. The Dutchman has managed to win two of those five races and claim a pole position in another. For the Austrian team, it would make sense to introduce the engine prior to the Singapore Grand Prix because Spa and Monza are both easy circuits to gain places.

The boss of Honda F1 Toyoharu Tanabe says a date has not yet been chosen as we edge closer to the end of Formula 1's summer break.

"We are discussing all the time with the teams and we will decide when we apply a new engine or updated spec. At the moment no decision has been made yet  It depends on the situation and timing and the result of the discussions with the teams. It's very complicated," Tanabe told Autosport.
