Vasseur hands Giovinazzi a lifeline!

Frederic Vasseur has handed Antonio Giovinazzi a huge vote of confidence by insisting that the Italian is at no risk of being removed from the F1 setup as his patchy form continues.

Giovinazzi's only points this season came at the Austrian Grand Prix when he finished tenth scoring a solitary point for Alfa Romeo. He retired at the British Grand Prix last time out, adding to his disappointing results this season.

Considering his very mixed form after being brought back into F1 following a few years out, many thought he was likely to be replaced but his boss appears to have given him a lifeline.

“I think he’s doing a strong job in quali,” Vasseur told Motorsport.com.

“He’s matching Kimi on Saturdays now, we just have to calm down the situation."

Despite being outperformed for the best part of the season by his teammate, Vasseur is not concerned by that, insisting he will be patient with his driver.

“I’m not too worried, because he’s doing the job. He scored a point in Austria, he was in a good dynamic at Silverstone, he was again in front of Kimi.

"Honestly he’s not under pressure, from the team or anyone else. I will be patient," he added.
