Ferrari don't want Vettel to leave, according to Italian journalist

Italian journalist Leo Turrini has insisted nobody on the Ferrari team wants to see Sebastian Vettel retire at the end of the season, as some rumours had implied.

Vettel was seen as one of the bookies' favourites to win the drivers' championship, with the SF90 performing very well in the pre-season testing in Barcelona. However, the car has really failed to live up to its early hype.

Mercedes have been dominant in the opening six rounds of the season, with either Lewis Hamilton or Valtteri Bottas winning every single one of the races so far, and Vettel's P2 in Monaco proved to be the only time the Silver Arrows have not recorded a one-two finish.

Italian journalist Turrini has admitted that nobody at Ferrari wants to see Vettel leave the side, with Fernando Alonso being rumoured as a possible replacement for the Maranello team.

"At the moment nobody at Ferrari wants to see Vettel leave," Turrini said, as cited by Qoutidiano

"In Maranello, they are well aware that Captain America could drive the car, but he would not be able to win the championship.

"Certainly Vettel currently has a feeling of legitimate frustration.

"He is in fifth year in Italy, he has given so much, he has made some mistakes, he has won a dozen grands prix or so."
