RUMOUR: Sainz to drive Indy 500 together with Alonso

According to Spanish newspaper MomentoGP, Carlos Sainz Jr. and Fernando Alonso will be working together for the Indy 500 next year, as they would both be driving for McLaren as Alonso attempts to complete his 'triple crown'.

Alonso made his debut in the Indy 500 last year, skipping the Monaco Grand Prix for McLaren to fly out to Indianapolis. He led the race for a short period but eventually retired because of mechanical failure. Reportedly, Sainz will want to make his debut in 2019.

The 24-year-old would first want to test the IndyCar during the winter so he won't be going in blind once the Indy 500 rolls around.

The former Renault and Toro Rosso driver has asked for time off for an Indy adventure, which would mean someone would have to stand in for Sainz during the Monaco Grand Prix. The Grand Prix in the principality is on the same day as the famous race in Indianapolis.
