In 2001, a 20-year-old Fernando Alonso was in his rookie season in the F1 with Minardi, where he often stood out as he overperformed for the team regularly. During the qualifying for the American Grand Prix, which was held at Indianapolis back then, the Spaniard even put his Minardi on provisional pole position! He eventually qualified in P17, but he did beat his teammate Jos Verstappen (father of Max) by over a second.
