Vandorne describes practice as "worst Friday of my career"

Stoffel Vandoorne has named yesterday as his “worst Friday” of his career as he finished the session in 20th place. The papaya orange car spent limited time on track as McLaren claimed they were assessing upgrades for Hungary.

Vandoorne was aiming to give McLaren two strong weekends prior to the summer break in order to get a contract from his team. But he hasn’t got off to the best of starts.

“The worst Friday of my career. This morning [Friday] we did a lot of aero tests, new parts on the car. We tried to understand the things we have a bit better,” Vandoorne told F1i.

“This afternoon again a difficult session. We again saw some problems with the car, similar to the ones we had at Silverstone. Right now, there’s a bit of a question how we can get the car back to a normal condition.”

Just as you think McLaren couldn’t get any worse. They did. What has happened to the car, which at the start of the season was regularly getting into the top 10? Vandoorne believes they’ve forgotten how to work it.

“We don’t understand how to get the car to work. We have to find a solution,” the Belgian added.
