Fernando Alonso has also celebrated compatriot Carlos Sainz's first win in Formula One. The Spaniard is happy for him and his father and says it will be a day to remember.

Sainz's victory at Silverstone breaks a nine-year period since a Spanish driver won an F1 race. The last time it was Alonso who won the Spanish Grand Prix in 2013. Carlos adds the 33rd Spanish win, the other wins all being in the name of Alonso.

The Alpine driver had good words for his Spanish friend. "I am very happy for him, he took pole on Saturday and won on Sunday at Silverstone, a day to remember."

'Red Bull faster'

Alonso is also happy for Carlos Sainz Sr. "He is a friend of mine who I have known for more than 30 years." He also joked about his congratulations: "I called Carlos Sr. after the pole to congratulate him because I thought Red Bull would be faster in the race. Of course I'm going to call him again now."
